The University of Applied Languages is unique among German universities. This is due to the innovative programmes, but also to the university’s structure: the University is part of the long-established SDI (Institute for Languages and Interpreting), which means it offers excellent conditions for practice-oriented research. This also results in a number of useful synergy effects.

Why study at the University of Applied Languages?

  • As a private university we are able to react quickly and flexibly to the needs of the employment market.
We keep track of the continually changing global market and its changing needs. We are also in close contact with national and international companies, organisations and institutions. We use this knowledge to develop educational concepts for tomorrow’s professions.
  • Our competence centre at the Munich Campus: The SDI Munich with its University of Applied Languages has been one of the most renowned educational facilities for translators and interpreters for more than 60 years.
The University of Applied Languages, founded in 2007, profits from this tradition. The SDI’s educational network has contacts all over the world, enabling students to gather valuable international experience during their studies and to become familiar with the opportunities offered by a globalised employment market.
  • The good relationship between students and teaching staff encourages a constructive learning environment.
We take time for our students and accompany them closely throughout their studies. This has a positive effect on their academic development.
  • Our innovative concepts are well thought-through and result in excellent academic results.
Our graduates have not only a high level of language proficiency, but also a well-founded interdisciplinary expertise, which is oriented around professional practice. We continually upgrade course content, and our programmes are subject to constant quality control.
  • Our committed teaching staff are not only qualified pedagogues and researchers, they also have professional experience in their field.
This combination of theoretical and practical ability is very important to us. It means we can teach not only according the needs of the employment market, but also with a solid academic grounding.
  • Graduates of Bavarian “Fachakademien” for Translators and Interpreters profit from our perfectly co-ordinated educational concept, too. The newly introduced double degree “State Examination plus Bachelor” qualifies them for further academic study.
