State recognition in 2006

The International University SDI München – University of Applied Sciences (formerly: University of Applied Languages / University of Applied Sciences of the SDI) is recognised and approved as a non-state-run university of applied sciences by letter No. XI/5-H6470-11/40 375 of 13/12/2006 of the Bavarian State Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts.

As an equivalent educational institution according to the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG), the University exclusively offers BAföG-funded degree programmes.

The academic degrees Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Master of Arts (MA) awarded by the University can be used internationally without restriction and generally entitle the holder to pursue further Master's or doctoral studies at universities. The academic degree Master of Arts (MA) gives holders access to the highest qualification level, the higher grade of civil servants, when employed in the civil service in Germany.

The International University SDI München does not receive any state subsidies, but is financed exclusively through tuition fees and third-party funds.

The quality of the University's degree programmes is confirmed repeatedly and once again

A large part of the degree programmes and the Bachelor’s external examination of the International University SDI München were accredited by the Accreditation, Certification and Quality Assurance Institute ACQUIN for the first time in 2007. In 2013, ACQUIN approved the application for re-accreditation once again, thus confirming that the degree programmes and structures of the University meet recognised academic standards. Re-accreditation was granted for seven years. The high quality of all degree programmes at the International University was also confirmed in the 2020 follow-up procedure: The degree programmes were successfully accredited by the Accreditation Council until 2028, two of which – Post-Editing & Quality Management (MA) and Translation (MA) – even until 2029.

In 2018, several other degree programmes were accredited, with their re-accreditation due in 2023. A detailed overview of all accreditation procedures can be found on the website of the Accreditation Council.
