Prof. Dr. Anne Lehrndorfer

I have always been interested in “something to do with language”. After studying psycholinguistics, psychology and phonetics at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and completing a postgraduate degree in computational linguistics, I did my doctorate on the subject of controlled language for technical documentation. Since then, I have also been very interested from a scientific point of view when communication does not run smoothly and straight.

Straight paths lead past many things.

Research

I am very interested in how the flow of information works or fails. As a psycholinguist, my research focuses in particular on the flow of information in companies, usability in technical communication and the transfer of information between languages, cultures and humans and machines. All of these areas are changing rapidly with AI and are keeping us all on our toes.

In detail, I focus on: Intelligibility research, structuring of information, pre- and post-editing of texts, standardization methods and media text production. The processes involved in the transfer of information between languages are also part of my teaching (e.g. translation management, cultural studies, information behavior).

I supervise academic theses and work on optimizing their evaluation, focusing on quality assurance in research and professionalized research in the paradigm shift through AI.

My empirical work observes student retention at our university, student resilience and change in the professional fields of translation, interpreting and technical communication.
