MA Interpreting

Your Career Prospects after Graduation

As a graduate of the degree programme you are a highly competent interpreter who guarantees communication between people who speak different languages and come from different cultures.

After leaving our University you are a qualified Conference Interpreter (specialisation “Conference Interpreting” only!) or you are qualified as an Interpreter for the German and European market, be it as a freelancer or as an employee. You might work in one or more of the following areas:

Specialisation “Conference Interpreting”:

  • Global corporations
  • International organisations
  • Internationally active associations
  • National and international authorities ( e.g. ministries, European Institutions)
  • Media: television, radio

Specialisation “Legal Interpreting and Translating”:

    • National and international courts of law
    • National and international judicial authorities
    • National and international police authorities

    Specialisation „Health Care and Community Interpreting“:

    • Encounters between health care providers and patients in hospitals and other medical and therapeutic facilities
    • Educational authorities and educational institutions
    • Welfare authorities and social institutions

      Since the degree programme is a full MA degree and is accredited for entrance into the highest level of civil service in Germany, you will be able to begin a career at a German or international authority or at one of the EU institutions.

      The aims and objectives of the specialisation Conference Interpreting are in line with the occupation profiles published by the International Association of Conference Interpreters (aiic) and the Association of Conference Interpreters in the Federal Association of Interpreters and Translators (VKD-BDÜ).

      The aims and objectives of the specialisation “Legal Interpreting and Translating” and “Health Care and Community Interpreting” are based on current scientific evidence and on practical professional experience.
