Name of the course and admissibility

These two qualifications are awarded by two different educational institutions:

Admission to the BA in Translation (External Exam) is only open to graduates of a Bavarian Professional College of Translation and Interpreting (FAK) who studied English, French, Italian, Russian or Spanish as their first foreign language.

For the main languages German and Chinese: BA in Translation Chinese

Duration

The translation course at the Professional College typically lasts three years and culminates in the Bavarian State Exam for Translators in July of the third year of study.

The BA exams, including the written tests of theory, a four-month period for writing the Bachelor’s thesis, and the oral exam, are spread out over a period of approx. one semester.

There are two main ways to prepare for the BA exams:

Start
  • Fast Track BA course: starting twice a year, in January and in May/ June (during the Bavarian Whitsun holidays)
  • Year-Long BA course: starting at the beginning of the school year in September
ECTS Credits210 in total. Of these, 105 ECTS are given for the State Exam and 105 ECTS are given for the BA exam; see Appendix 1 and 2 of the Exam Regulations (PDF)
