Vocational College for Language Careers (BFS) – Multilingual Administrative Assistant

    Do you have any questions?

    What our students say

Benno (Graduate of the Vocational College, now a graduate of the MA Intercultural Communication)
“At the first information event I attended, I found out that you can get a BA and even an MA at the SDI without having an official university entrance qualification (Abitur). That’s when I decided to come to the SDI.”

At Home in the World of Languages

    • You enjoy communicating, have completed secondary school and want to perfect your language abilities or learn a new language?
    • Or you have completed a commercial apprenticeship and understand the importance of multilingual communication in the working world today?

At the state-certified Vocational College for Language Careers (BFS), part of the SDI, you can complete a top-quality, practice-oriented two-year course which is tailored to the demands of the German and international business worlds. After completing your training as a multilingual administrative assistant, you can enter the job market immediately or continue your education at a German Berufsoberschule (BOS) to get your university entrance qualification (Fachabitur/Abitur).

If you already have a university entrance qualification (Abitur) and a working knowledge of two foreign languages, you can complete the course in just one year.

Our teachers are native speakers from a wide range of countries and cultures ranging from Germany, Italy, Spain, France, the UK and Russia to the US, Uruguay and Colombia and even as far away as New Zealand and Australia.

The favourable student-teacher ratio at the Vocational College fosters a constructive learning atmosphere. We will make time for you and provide you with continuous support throughout the course. The individual attention we offer enhances the learning success of our students.

From Secondary School (Mittlere Reife) to a Bachelor’s Degree

One particular advantage of our full-time course: If you graduate with good grades, you can prepare to take the Bavarian State Exam for Translators/Interpreters in just two more years at the SDI – und then earn a BA in Translation in just one more semester.

    Skills Summary

    • You will learn two languages at an advanced level; the course will enable you to speak, listen, read and write effortlessly in these two languages when you enter the workforce.
    • In addition to languages, you will gain expertise in a special subject, either Economics or Engineering.  You will also learn about the countries and cultures where your languages are spoken.
    • You will gain practical experience ranging from interpreting conversations to writing professional-sounding business letters for the import/export trade, among others.
    • You will learn to work effectively with computer programs and other means of modern office communication.

    Occupational Profile / Career Prospects

To keep pace with globalization, the focus of communication in companies and organizations is becoming increasingly international. As a result, the demand for office communication specialists who have professional-level competence in several languages is growing constantly. As a graduate of our program, the tasks that you assume will be varied and interesting – no matter if you work as a multilingual administrative assistant, a team assistant, a foreign language secretary or an administrative specialist in an international company or organization.
